ARE YOU OLD ENOUGH TO LEGALLY DRINK?
In the 18th century, a religious order was expelled from the country. Their haciendas, vineyards and cellars were abandoned and decayed over time. Before their exile, they tried to bury most of their treasures and secrets. Years went by and in Valle de Elqui, near Monte Grande, a friar (fraile, in Spanish) was seen wandering around. He had a mysterious habit: walking up the hill in the afternoons. Luckily, not all their secrets and treasures remained hidden.
A spirituous liquor made from a secret recipe never ceased brewing. Today, the term “Monte” refers to the hill this wandering friar walked and his spirit which turned to stone. Legend has it that under his feet lies the book keeping the secret, the Monte Fraile Pisco.
Muscat grapes from Elqui’s high regions, warm areas but influenced by the Andes mountains. Semi-desert areas with large fluctuations in temperature coupled with high light intensity provide the grapes with a unique taste.
Hand picked, they are the variety used in white wines. Double distilled and aged in oak barrel.
